Ambassador to "Man's World", Princess Diana left her homeland to defend another from the plans of the God of War, Ares. Ares had planned on starting a third (and final) World War, but the gods intervened, asking that a contest be held in order to determine the most worthy among the Amazon nation. Entering in disguise, Princess Diana easily won the contest and the right to journey to America to defeat the War God.

Profile: Golden Age Wonder Woman

In 1941 American military Steve Trevor crashed on Paradise Island, home to the legendary Amazons. The Amazons decided to help him battle evil. To determine who should accompany Trevor, they held a contest. Queen Hippolyta forbade her daughter to enter the competition, but Diana, in love with Trevor, disguised herself, entered the contest, and won. She left for the United States, where, under the name "Diana Prince", she entered the military, and became secretary to Colonel Darnell.
