□ | Profile: [WW2] British 8th Army (2000) Formed in late 1941 from the western desert force, the British Eighth army fought longer and more continuously than any other British army in World War II. Initially fighting the Italians and later, the German Afrika Corps under General Irwin Rommel. The Eighth won the decisive battle of El Alamein under General Bernard Montgomery. They moved onward into Tunisia, north to the invasion of Sicily, and then the bloody move northward through Italy. |
