□ | About Colorforms ![]() ![]() Colorforms is one of the oldest and most respected names in the U.S. toy industry. It began in 1951 when Harry and Patricia Kislevitz, two art students, were experimenting with a new medium, a flexible vinyl material given to them by a friend who manufactured pocketbooks and thought they could find a creative use for the material. The Kislevitzes discovered that the vinyl stuck to the semi-gloss paint in their bathroom. They cut shapes out of the material and placed them on the walls, leaving extra material and a pair of scissors out for guests to add to their creation. After observing the fun everyone had, the Kislevitzes decided to market this new creative activity as a consumer product. The item first launched through FAO Schwarz. University Games acquired Colorforms, in January 1998. More than 1 billion Colorforms sets have been sold since 1951. In 2001, Colorforms celebrates its 50th anniversary. |
