Company history
About Hasbro.Transformers
Hasbro, Inc. started as a family-owned company and, in its 75-year history, has grown from eight family members working in a small shop in Providence, Rhode Island to a children's and family leisure time and entertainment company with approximately 10,000 employees worldwide. Two brothers, Henry and Helal Hassenfeld founded Hasbro in 1923. They sold textile remnants and later, began manufacturing pencil boxes and school supplies. Monumental growth occurred during the 1960s with the introduction of one of the most successful toys ever marketed, G.I. Joe®. On October 10, 1968, Hasbro became a public company and changed its name to Hasbro Industries, Inc. In 1983, Hasbro purchased Knickerbocker Toy Company (Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy) 1984: Hasbro acquired the world's largest and oldest game and puzzle maker, the Milton Bradley Company 1991: acquired Tonka Corporation (Tonka Trucks, Monopoly, Nerf, Easy-Bake Oven, Clue, Play-Doh) 1995: purchased the Larami Corporation and its popular Super Soaker® line. 1997: Lucasfilm renewed and expanded its licensing agreement with Hasbro for the next three installments of the Star Wars saga 1998, Hasbro acquired Tiger Electronics
