Ranking
August 18, 2006 – According to the latest NPD Group research on the dollar share of toy manufacturers, ToyQuest was ranked the seventh largest toy manufacturer in the United States. This is the first time the LA-based toy company has made the list.

Manufacturer Ranked on Dollar Sales

1 . . . . . Mattel
2 . . . . . Hasbro
3 . . . . . Jakks Pacific
4 . . . . . Binney and Smith
5 . . . . . MGA Entertainment
6 . . . . . MegaBrands
7 . . . . . Manley ToyQuest
8 . . . . . Lego Systems
9 . . . . . Intex
10 . . . . Leap Frog

While Mattel and Hasbro continue to dominate market share, there are opportunities for other manufacturers, like ToyQuest, to receive placement at retail. A large portion of ToyQuest’s success can be attributed to their line of seasonal items including the Banzai Falls inflatable water slides, pool toys, sprinklers, squirt guns, and other backyard activities. ToyQuest is a category leader in the inflatable water business at major mass retailers.

“ToyQuest continues to bring quality and innovative products to the marketplace. Our Banzai Falls seasonal line has done extremely well this year and has added exponentially to our total sales,” states President Brian Dubinsky. “I am honored that ToyQuest is ranked amongst other top toy manufacturers.“

Hasbro Oct 2007 G.I.Joe Question & Answers With Hasbro Round 4

G.I.Joe Question & Answers With Hasbro Round 4
Each month we submit 5 reader-generated questions to the Hasbro design team for G.I.Joe. Here is the latest batch of questions and answers for October:

TNI: Will the figures in the special wave of single-carded box set figures coming out at the end of the year be the exact same figures as those already released, or will some of the joint and articulation problems be fixed on these versions?

Hasbro: They will be exactly the same as the figures in the box sets. Look for new articulation in the first wave of 2008.

TNI: Exactly what will people have to do to get the very cool-looking Doc mail-away figure shown at this year's Con?

Hasbro: To get Doc, fans will have to send in 6 proof of purchase stickers from the Comic Packs.

TNI: Can you tell us more about the rank building evolution type sets to be released at TRU stores (as announced at this year's Con)? How many figures will be released in each set, what figures will be in the initial sets, and will these be new figures or just re-released ones?

Hasbro: We will be debuting these at the GI Joe Club soon. These packs will have three figures and highlight the ranks of both Cobra and GI Joe.

TNI: Will the new IG Destro have a soft good cape or a hard plastic cape?

Hasbro: This will be soft goods.

TNI: Word at the convention was that a Crimson Guard Commander comic 2-pack would be released in the second wave of comic packs. Is this true?

Hasbro: Other than the wave 1 Comic Pack characters, we've only confirmed the Dreadknoks comic pack.

Mattel Aug 2007 Answers for parents with questions about Mattel toy recall - Quad-Cities Online

What to do about the extensive recall of toys by Mattel?
Here are some answers for parents.
Question: What toy was recalled because of lead paint?
Answer: Sarge, a die-cast character from the movie 'Cars.' It is a 3-inch-long, olive green vehicle with a white star on the hood. It may have been sold individually or in assortment packs between May and August.
Q: Which toys were recalled because of magnets?
A: Sixty-three toys: four kinds of Batman Magna action figures, the Shonen Jump's One Piece play set, toys in the Polly Pocket and Doggie Daycare product lines, and the blue pooper scooper in the Barbie & Tanner play set. See the Mattel Web site, service.mattel.com/us/, for photographs and detailed descriptions of each toy involved in the recall, or call the Mattel recall hotline, (888) 597-6597.
Q: How do I know whether the recall affects my child's Sarge car?
A: The recall applies only to models that are marked 'CHINA' on the underside and have a six-character code in white that ends with '7EA.' Sarge cars that were made in Thailand or with product codes that end in 5EA, 6Ea or AZare not affected.
Q: What do I do if my child's Sarge car is affected?
A: Take it away from your child immediately. Go to the Mattel Web site and follow links to the recall information. From there, you can request a prepaid mailing label that will be e-mailed to you. Use the label to return the toy. Mattel will ship you a $7 voucher within 12 weeks, good at most retailers for any Mattel or Fisher-Price product. Or try Mattel's recall hotline.
Q: What kinds of injuries can the recalled products cause?
A: Lead paint can be toxic to children if it is ingested. The magnets in the recalled Mattel toys can fall out. If a child swallows more than one magnet, the pieces may attract one another and cause a potentially fatal intestinal tear, blockage or infection. If the magnet is inhaled into the lungs, immediate surgery is required, and magnets placed in a child's nose or ears could cause swelling and be difficult to remove.
Q: How many injuries from the recalled products have been reported?
A: None, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall is being done voluntarily to prevent possible injury.
Q: Is this recall different from the recent Fisher-Price recall involving lead paint?
A: Yes. The first recall covered 83 types of toys, including Sesame Street and Dora the Explorer toys, coated with lead paint and made by Mattel's Fisher-Price division.
Q: How did the problems related to the latest recall occur?
A: The manufacturer of the Sarge vehicles, Early Light Industrial Co. of China, subcontracted the painting of some parts to Hong Li Da, a Chinese company that violated Mattel's standards and used an uncertified supplier's paints. The magnet problems affected toys made between January 2002 and January 2007. Mattel said it has since established new manufacturing standards for magnetic toys.
Q: Where else can I go for information?
A: The Consumer Product Safety Commission maintains recall information on its Web site, www.cpsc.gov. It also has a hotline at (800) 638-2772 to handle reports of dangerous products or injuries caused by consumer products. Also try your state attorney general's office.

Sideshow 2007 Answering questions...
Halo asks: What would it cost ME to have a 12-inch figure made of myself, as my own custom Star Wars character?
SSC: The short answer is, it is a very, very expensive process to have a one-of-a-kind (a prototype) figure of you made entirely from scratch, and it is not a service that Sideshow offers. Do you have any artistic friends? Some good relationships can make this a much more affordable process... There are several artists (again, NOT Sideshow, so please do not contact us about making a custom figure!) who will do commissioned portrait work, and the beauty of the 12-inch format is that your customization options are pretty amazing. Once you have your head, you could reasonably expect to find any costume or accessory that you might want (almost everything - EVERYTHING - has been made by some company or some individual at this point). Customization is all about taking a little bit from here, a little bit from there, and building it up into a completely original figure, which is a much less expensive process than constructing everything from scratch. Many companies, including Sideshow, even sell 1/6 scale model bodies especially for customizers to build up!

Transformers Cybertron Video Game - Quest For Cybertron
transformers_game.jpg We have come across a page for a development firm supposedly handling some of the duties in creating a Transformers Cybertron video game entitled 'The Quest for Cybertron'. Brooklyn Games has an image online showing some scenes from the development. Of note, this is copywritten to 2005, and no word has been released prior to this about the game, other than a general possibility way back when the Transformers Armada Video Game game was out. So it's possible this was just a development that never fully realized.

Alvarez answers 20 questions on the new club exclusive figure
Last night on the club forums, Rik Alvarez took some time out at the Transformers club forums to play a game of 20 questions regarding the soon to be announced club exclusive figure. Not all of the questions were answered, either because they were skipped over or because they were too specific/would give too much away. However, a great deal of interesting tidbits were handed out. Alvarez's answers to the 20 questions were as follows:

ANSWER #1: LARGER THAN A DELUXE.
ANSWER #2: MALE
ANSWER #3: DECEPTICON
ANSWER #4: BASED ON AN EXISTING CHARACTER.
ANSWER #5: HE COMES WITH A MINI-CON.
ANSWER #6: YES, IT IS AN ARMADA MOLD.
ANSWER #7: YES, HE HAS A NEW HEAD.
ANSWER #8: 'I' DONT KNOW AS OF YET, IF IT WILL HAVE THE ELECTRONICS.
ANSWER #9: YES, IT COMES WITH THE ORIGINAL MINI-CON.
ANSWER #10: BASED ON A CHARACTER FROM GENERATION ONE.
ANSWER #11: YES, HE HAS HAD A PREVIOUS TOY.
ANSWER #12: NO, THE MINI-CON IS A NEW CHARACTER.
ANSWER #13: YES IT HAS BEEN REINCARNATED IN ANOTHER LINE.
ANSWER #14: HE IS NOT A LEADER.
ANSWER #15: SIMILAR TO THE ORIGINAL TOY, BUT GINORMOUSLY DIFFERENT IS SEVERAL WAYS.
ANSWER #16: COLORS INCLUDE YET ARE NOT LIMITED TO GRAY AND PURPLE.
ANSWER #17: HE IS SOMEWHAT OF A REINVISIONED VERSION OF THE G1 CHARACTER. I.E. CYBERTRON BLURR. DISCLAIMER: HOWEVER, THE COMIC WRITERS MAY CHOOSE ANOTHER ORIGIN AT SOME POINT IF IT FLOWS BETTER WITH THE STORY.
ANSWER #18: THIS CHARACTER HAS BEEN SEEN IN THE SHOW SINCE THE MOVIE.
ANSWER #19: YES, HE HAS ONLY EVER BEEN A DECEPTICON.
ANSWER #20: THIS FIGURE IS NOT MOLDED IN CLEAR PLASTIC.

There are only a limited number of characters and molds that fulfill these requirements, so speculation is already spreading like wildfire. Club members can visit the members only forums to view all of the questions that were asked, and be sure to join in our discussion on the 2005 Boards as well.
