Humble Beginings
HEROBUILDERS.COM was started in February of 2002 with one simple action figure of George W Bush. This was actually a figure that I made for myself and had on my desk. As more and more clients and friends came in to my Design Studio and would see this figure everyone would say " hey you should sell that", "put it on the web". Well I finally did after my IT guy was updating services and he said "hey you should put that on the web". So that night we opened a one page site without any images just a simple description and the very next morning we had one single order,,, that is the brief account of how HEROBUILDERS.COM was started.

Since then we have grown and have added more POLITICAL ACTION FIGURES than any other company, we have also added new brand figures HOTBOX, pioneered On Demand Toys semi custom action figures and we fully custom action figures that look like you, custom toys using our rapid prototype systems and much more to come.

HeroBuilders.com July 2009 Holy Exploitative: An Erin Andrews Action Figure

Some people will stop at nothing to make a profit and HeroBuilders.com is no exception. This site specializes in making action figures of newsworthy folks like Sarah Palin, Jon Gosselin, and George Bush. But now that ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews has been catapulted into fame because some creep decided to film her naked in her hotel room, the site is going to immortalize her forever in colored plastic.
She’s going to be made into two dolls, one will look all professional and the other is going to be rockin’ a red sundress. A red sundress? Ugh, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a special-edition nude one, too. The dolls usually cost around $40 and look way more muscular than the people they’re supposed to represent, but as long as the site makes money who cares, right?
I do! This is so taking advantage of an unfortunate incident. Erin Andrews is a professional, albeit sexy, sportscaster who has spent most of her life reporting on sports. Now the only thing she’s going to be remembered for is some amateur nude video. Not to mention that now she’ll always be looking over her shoulder to make sure no one is watching and filming her.
Well, I’ve got news for you people, there’s a lot more to her than just a good body. This stupid action-figure website is making her even more of an object by creating, well, an object of her. It’s so insulting that women like Erin are ignored until they show a ton of skin. And in this case, it wasn’t even consensual. Gross.

HeroBuilders.com June 2009 Sarah Palin Action Figure

Sarah Palin is an Action Girl!

Former VP candidate and moose shooter, Sarah Palin has been all over the news lately with her new verbal scuffle with late night talk show host, David Letterman. This isn't a political, nor even entertainment news, blog, so I'm not going to get all caught up in who said what and blah, blah, blah. But what we will talk about is the fact that whether you love her or hate her, you can have your very own Sarah Palin action figure thanks to HeroBuilders.com!
Why would you want a Sarah Palin action figure? Well, that's up to you. But as soon as I saw the 'Action Girl' version of the figure (one of many different Palin figures offered by Hero Builders) my mind conjured up epic kung-fu style battles between her and Letterman. Now All I need is a David Letterman figure and I'd be good to go.
There is a small corner of the action figure collecting world made of up collectors that collect nothing but figures based on real life people, whether they be astronauts, civil rights leaders or people who can see Russia from their house. In fact, Hero Builders offers all kinds of political figures. So if you're planning on picking up the Sarah Palin figure, you might as well grab a John McCain, Joe Biden and Barak Obama set as well, and then you can relive the exciting 2008 race to the White House! They even offer a Dick Cheney figure that comes with his very own shotgun, which is just begging for somebody to start making political cartoons out of cleverly posed action figures. That's my official prediction. You heard it here first, folks!

Yes! Now you can pose dueling Darth Vader, throwing down with the Ninja Turtles or showing GI Joe who is boss. Herobuilders will make a 12″ version of you (90% accurate) that is pose-able, lovable and hug-able. Who wouldn’t love a mini-you?
It works like this: you send in images of yourself and any tattoos or other features you want included. Herobuilders then sends you back a sculpture of your head for approval. On your approval they make a mold and send you action figure from that mold. Nice and easy.
Custom clothing, tools, 20 second speaking capabilities and the like are all options. Everything looks to be made in the USA. Want to create an army of “yous”? Additional copies cost just $39.95
The company also makes popular figures; they started with President Bush action hero. There is a Condi Rice figure that makes me laugh.

Herobuilders Feb 2007 Valley of the Dolls

Would Anyone Buy A Naked Britney Spears Action Figure? An Oxford Toy Maker Thinks So.
At the end of a long gravel driveway in Oxford is a modest stone house. In its attic, action figures are born.
But these are not superheroes or children’s toys. They are political. They are raunchy. They are Fox News fodder. They are the work of Emil Vicale and his two-person company, Herobuilders.
In January, Herobuilders made international news for “Dope on a Rope,” a 12-inch tall Saddam Hussein figure with a noose around its pinky-sized plastic neck. They’ve done Schwarzenegger, a shotgun-toting Cheney and several versions of President Bush.
Due out soon: “The Rock” Obama; Fidel Castro on his death bed; and Britney Spears with exposed vagina.
In 2004, Herobuilders created “Mean Dean,” complete with a voice chip featuring Howard Dean’s frenzied post-Iowa Caucus howl. Before that, there was an Osama bin Laden in pink panties (that one, Vicale says, “messed with the Muslim philosophy that only American men are gay”). And, during the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Herobuilder’s “Disinformation Minister” — the Iraqi information minister, Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf — sold 16,000 figures in 24 hours.
Vicale has owned the company since Sept. 20, 2001. With the country still in the throws of post-9/11 anxiety, it seemed an inauspicious time to take over a failing action figure business. But it was the image of President Bush at Ground Zero that got the company off the ground. “I was unbelievably inspired that he could actually speak without a fuckin’ cue card,” says Vicale, sounding sarcastic, but actually being sincere — or as sincere as he seems capable. He created a Bush at Ground Zero doll for himself. The doll received so many comments that Vicale decided to offer it for sale online. By the next morning he was receiving orders.
The dolls themselves, though, are hardly artful. Their bodies are not unlike a Ken doll, though skin tone varies depending on the friend or foe depicted. It’s only facial hair and clothing that distinguish Saddam, for example, from Hugo Chavez.
The political action figures are what get Herobuilders attention on Fox News and in “Istanbul, Pakistan, and the deepest jungles in the world,” says Vicale. But the company gets its biggest orders from the likes of NASCAR, companies looking for creative marketing ideas with a half million dollars to spend on a single project.
Vicale has received death threats for his handiwork. One, from Brazil, was so serious the FBI was called. But threats of physical harm are not Vicale’s only concern. Among the rest of the papers in his tiny attic office, is a letter marked with an ominous return address. It simply reads, THE WHITE HOUSE, WASHINGTON. Vicale hasn’t opened it. “You see the White House,” he says, “and your name on an envelope — that’s just bad, right? You’re fucked.”
Herobuilders, Vicale claims, has a right to represent just about any public figure — however insulting or distasteful the dolls might be. His one concern is his President Bush dolls. There is a “vague” — and often ignored — law, explains Vicale, that says you can’t profit from a sitting president. So, among all of his dolls, his most complimentary model may prove the most problematic.

Herobuilders Jan 2007 Rolls pout OUT SADDAM HANGING DOLL

U.S.: ENTREPRENEUR ROLLS OUT SADDAM HANGING DOLL

Oxford, Connecticut, 4 Jan. (AKI) - A small Connecticut-based company Herobuilders, has produced a mail-order doll of late Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's final minutes at the gallows. Despite having received a death threat on Thursday, Herobuilder's founder and owner, Emilio Vicale told Adnkronos International (AKI) he does not regret creating the doll or feel it is inappropriate. 'What about Saddam's gassing of thousands of people - was that in good taste?' he asked, referring to Saddam's alleged responsibility for the gassing of 5,000 Kurds and poisoning of thousands more.

In what might seem a cynical marketing move, Vicale decided to manufacture the 24.95 dollar doll two months ago. It has been available on the company website since last Friday - 'when we knew the execution would go ahead on Saturday,' he said.

'We've sold about 100 so far,' Vicale said, adding that his company - which sells a range some of 35 political action figures - usually sells about 300 dolls every 4-5 days. Herobuilders has a factory nearby to their Connecticut office and produces the dolls on demand, so Vicale is unfazed by the slower-than expected start to sales of the macabre Saddam doll. 'We already have four action figures of Saddam and so its seemed natural to do this one,' he said.

'We regularly receive complaints from customers over some of the dolls,' he said. 'We got hundreds of email threats when we produced our Osama bin Laden doll,' Vicale continued.

The company produced its first doll - of United States president George W. Bush - in February 2002. The 'Hero Action Figures' list contains British prime minister Tony Blair, Senator, Hillary Clinton, US secretary of state Condoleeza Rice, and Jesus Christ, amongst others.

'Osama bin Laden, his number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri, four earlier incarnations of Saddam, his son Uday - one showing his bloodied head after the US firefight that killed him and his brother - as well Russian president Vladmir Putin and his French counterpart Jacques Chirac are among the dolls available from Herobuilders' 'Villains' list.

A number of the dolls such as Osama, Uday, and Venezuela's anti-US president Hugo Chavez are talking ones, Vicale said.

'People of all different ilks buy these dolls. Customers are adults, mostly men, but a lot of women also buy them as gifts for their husbands,' Vicale concluded.
