Todd McFarlane (Spawn) created exclusive art to be featured on the cover, and interior art will include some of the most talented names in comics.

The 128-page graphic novel, a full-color action-adventure anthology featuring six original stories, is based on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the feature film to be released by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films on May 28, 2010. Prince of Persia: Grains of Sand will publish in April 2010 simultaneously in hardcover and paperback.

Licensing International Expo June 2008 Warner & Disney & more...
NEW YORK—The 28th annual Licensing International Expo—the event's last expo in New York before next year's move to Las Vegas—came to a subdued close today, winding down three days of buzz, branding and brainstorming sessions for the hottest properties of the future. More than 25,000 attendees were on hand this week, hashing out their property plans from all sides of the business. Here are some of their latest deals and upcoming initiatives.

Warner Bros. will soon begin promoting its tie-in products (toys from master partner Mattel as well as costumes from Rubies and high-end collectibles from NECA) for the newest Batman film, The Dark Knight, which debuts on the big screen next month. Another big focus going forward for the company will be on The Brave and the Bold, a new Batman series set to air on Cartoon Network in November, Kelly Gilmore, senior vice president of global toys and themed entertainment, tells Playthings. The stylized animated series, appropriate for preschoolers, will pair Batman with a different superhero each week. An entire toy line for the series will debut from Mattel in spring 2009.

Other upcoming properties and deals being discussed at the show include Where the Wild Things Are (October 2009)—for which McFarlane Toys and Sababa will produce both movie and literary-based products; Alexander Doll, Crocodile Creek and Mudpuppy signed on for literary products; and Funko and Fisher-Price for movie products—as well as the upcoming seventh Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The studio is now planning to break the film into two parts, one debuting in 2010 and the other in 2011, Gilmore says. The Hobbit will follow in 2011.

Long-term, live-action Robotech, Johnny Quest, World of Warcraft, He-Man and Justice League films are also on the agenda for licensing, as well as the CGI Thundercats and a third Batman film from Chris Nolan, Gilmore says.

• Mattel unveiled a number of new directo-to-DVD home entertainment properties that will debut for its Barbie brand, including Barbie and the Diamond Castle plus A Christmas Carol for the holiday season and Thumbelina for Spring 2009, which will have an environmental element. Meanwhile, the U.B. Funkeys, from the company’s Radica division, are being licensed into plush as well as electronic tie-ins such as computer speakers and flash drives from Emerson in an exclusive program with Target this fall; the Funkeys push is the earliest ever outbound licensing campaign for a Mattel, according to a company representative. Mattel also confirmed that new apparel is in the works for all its key brands, including Barbie, Hot Wheels and the U.B. Funkeys. Another focus for the company at this year’s show was the promotion of its Barbie BCause brand, a patchwork collection of girls’ accessories (toes, pillows, books) made from scrap fabrics and other recycled materials left over from Barbie doll clothing production. The line is exclusive to Toys “R” Us this fall.

Disney Consumer Products talked up its plans for more Princess productions, which will for the first time venture beyond Disney-owned characters and into those from classic fairytales. Up first is this year’s The Princess and the Frog, which features the first African-American princess in the Disney family, followed by Rapunzel in 2010. Also on the horizon for the company is a fourth High School Musical movie and Toy Story 3.

Disney Nov 2007 Reaches To The Crib To Extend Princess Magic Wall Street Journal
At the recently opened Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Cinderella's castle in Walt Disney World, hordes of young girls in ball gowns jostle every day to get their hair coiffed, their nails painted and their faces plastered with make-up to imitate their favorite princess. It's an image that's become classic of the Walt Disney Co. Princess revolution. What started out in 2001 as a few princess outfits became an overnight sensation as Disney enchanted 3- to 6-year-old girls throughout America with everything from princess comforters and princess backpacks to princess-emblazoned sneakers. Smartly-packaged releases of classic princess movies have helped bring girls back for more each year.
[Princess makeovers at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Disney World.]
Princess makeovers at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Disney World.
But while Disney appears to have exploited every corner of princess mania, it is also under pressure to keep its $4 billion princess franchise growing. So Disney's princess minders are hoping to hook even younger girls and their moms on the craze with a new range of princess products aimed at newborns. The princess clan will feature on cribs, diaper-changing mats and other infant products next year. Also on tap: adding new princesses to the core lineup that includes Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Belle and Jasmine (more-recent characters, Mulan and Pocahontas, are largely on the sidelines). Disney plans to introduce a new African-American princess called Tiana in an animated film, 'The Princess and the Frog,' a response to demands for more diversity among princesses. Two other animated princess-based movies -- one starring Rapunzel and another starring a Scottish princess in a new Pixar production -- will be rolled out after that. Meanwhile, Disney's first live-action princess movie, 'Enchanted,' will hit screens this week and is being tapped to sell more princess products. The movie -- in which an animated girl betrothed to a prince is propelled into modern-day, live-action New York City -- was originally conceived as a chance to introduce a new princess, Giselle, to the lineup, according to people familiar with the matter. But Disney abandoned that plan when it realized securing the life-long rights to the image of Amy Adams, who plays Giselle, was harder than an ugly step-sister squeezing into Cinderella's glass shoe. Andy Mooney, Disney's head of consumer products who launched the Princess brand, concedes that the heady growth of recent years is likely to slow at home and that the company is looking to push the brand more aggressively overseas. That initially means Europe, then Asia. Disney has been trying to introduce the brand in countries like India, where it launched a search for an Indian princess. One challenge in the more mature home market: a brewing backlash against what Disney Princess represents. Tomi-Ann Roberts, a professor of psychology at Colorado College, complains that the princesses have become more sexualized, with more skin showing and bigger heads, eyes and breasts. 'The ever increasing marketing to younger and younger girls of an adult sexualized version of the princesses is concerning,' says Ms. Roberts, who co-authored a report on the sexualization of girls.

Disney Sept 2007 Family Fun Karito Kids World Collection - #1 Means The Same Thing In Any Language
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Whether you say it in English (number one!), Chinese (shu ma yi!), Swahili (hesabu moja!), Spanish (numero uno!) or Italian (novero una!) it all translates the same way: The best of the best. Of course, these five languages are how the dolls who make up the Karito Kids World Collection® would say it. That's because this brand new and totally unique line of dolls and books is completely international.

It is a testament to the high-quality of Karito Kids World Collection that they made the 16th annual FamilyFun Toy of the Year (T.O.Y.) Awards list in their flagship year. But it's even more impressive that after extensive testing of more than 200 toys - by invitation only - Karito Kids was crowned with the #1 spot. According to parent company KidsGive co-founder, Laura Rangel, 'We are so absolutely thrilled around here you have no idea. This company and product began as a dream from my business partner, Lisa and I, so to see it become a reality is phenomenal. Now add this amazing award and we are overjoyed.'
Published by Disney Publishing Worldwide, FamilyFun is the nation's largest magazine targeting families with children ages 3 to 12 years old, with a rate base of 2 million and an audience of 4.8 million. Here's why FamilyFun awarded Karito Kids with the Toy of the Year Award, as described in the November issue, which hits newsstands October 9th:
Karito Kids Dolls
Number 1 Toy of the Year
Recommended Ages: 6 and up
Price: $99.99
'Our testers were instantly drawn to the beautiful true-to-life faces of the Karito Kids World Collection -- stylish yet sweet girls from China, Italy, Kenya, the United States, and Mexico. But once they read about each 21-inch-tall doll, her country, and her particular passion (soccer, fashion, panda bears) in the included adventure books, they were truly smitten. A bonus: 'tweens can go online to direct 3 percent of their doll's retail price to a children's charity.'

Disney Summer 2007 Pirates of the Caribbean - Life-Size Johnny Depp

For their third installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney is offering an unusual—okay, creepy—product: a life-size Jack Sparrow figurine. That's right: A great big Johnny Depp you can call your very own.
Topping out at 6-foot-4, which we're fairly sure is larger than actual size, the statue of the scoundrel of the seas looks rather imposing and will set you back a formidable $1,500, plus $200 just to ship to your little pirate's hideaway. Now, if you know anyone thinking of buying this, try sitting down and just talking with them. A little bit of human contact is probably all they need to avoid dropping a grand and a half on an erzatz Johnny Depp or, if you keep house like us, a $1,500 hat rack. That looks like Johnny Depp.

Disney Dec 2006 There are now more than 25,000 Disney Princess items.

What's Wrong With Cinderella?
By PEGGY ORENSTEIN

I finally came unhinged in the dentist's office — one of those ritzy pediatric practices tricked out with comic books, DVDs and arcade games — where I'd taken my 3-year-old daughter for her first exam. Until then, I'd held my tongue. I'd smiled politely every time the supermarket-checkout clerk greeted her with 'Hi, Princess'; ignored the waitress at our local breakfast joint who called the funny-face pancakes she ordered her 'princess meal'; made no comment when the lady at Longs Drugs said, 'I bet I know your favorite color' and handed her a pink balloon rather than letting her choose for herself. Maybe it was the dentist's Betty Boop inflection that got to me, but when she pointed to the exam chair and said, 'Would you like to sit in my special princess throne so I can sparkle your teeth?' I lost it.
'Oh, for God's sake,' I snapped. 'Do you have a princess drill, too?'
She stared at me as if I were an evil stepmother.
'Come on!' I continued, my voice rising. 'It's 2006, not 1950. This is Berkeley, Calif. Does every little girl really have to be a princess?'
My daughter, who was reaching for a Cinderella sticker, looked back and forth between us. 'Why are you so mad, Mama?' she asked. 'What's wrong with princesses?'
Diana may be dead and Masako disgraced, but here in America, we are in the midst of a royal moment. To call princesses a 'trend' among girls is like calling Harry Potter a book. Sales at Disney Consumer Products, which started the craze six years ago by packaging nine of its female characters under one royal rubric, have shot up to $3 billion, globally, this year, from $300 million in 2001. There are now more than 25,000 Disney Princess items. 'Princess,' as some Disney execs call it, is not only the fastest-growing brand the company has ever created; they say it is on its way to becoming the largest girls' franchise on the planet.
Meanwhile in 2001, Mattel brought out its own 'world of girl' line of princess Barbie dolls, DVDs, toys, clothing, home décor and myriad other products. At a time when Barbie sales were declining domestically, they became instant best sellers. Shortly before that, Mary Drolet, a Chicago-area mother and former Claire's and Montgomery Ward executive, opened Club Libby Lu, now a chain of mall stores based largely in the suburbs in which girls ages 4 to 12 can shop for 'Princess Phones' covered in faux fur and attend 'Princess-Makeover Birthday Parties.' Saks bought Club Libby Lu in 2003 for $12 million and has since expanded it to 87 outlets; by 2005, with only scant local advertising, revenues hovered around the $46 million mark, a 53 percent jump from the previous year. Pink, it seems, is the new gold

Hasbro Dec 2006 Build Your Own Lightsaber at Walt Disney World - Mickey News

Build Your Own Lightsaber at Walt Disney World
Mickey News (press release), CA -
Starting Friday, visitors to Walt Disney World in Florida will find an all-new Star Wars themed attraction waiting for them in the park's Once Upon A Toy Store -- the Build Your Own Lightsaber experience. Both Jedi and Sith alike are invited to 'choose their destiny' and construct their saber of choice from a dazzling display offering scores of different design possibilities, including an exclusive purple-colored filter for fans of the signature Windu-hued blade.
The new attraction, which utilizes parts from Hasbro's customizable lightsaber toys, follows two other Hasbro-sponsored attractions recently installed in the park, the Build Your Own Potato Head and Create Your Own My Little Pony Playset. 'The guests love it because it gives them the opportunity to create a completely customized toy,' says Disney Theme Park Toy Developer Brad Schoeneberg. 'The opportunity to Build Your Own Lightsaber and complete your training as a 'Jedi' or 'Sith' is definitely a dream come true for children of all ages.' Making dreams come true is the order of business for Disney's 'Year of a Million Dreams' campaign currently underway at Disney Theme Parks.
With Walt Disney World's Star Tours attraction, Star Wars Weekends, and recently-installed Jedi Training Academy, the park is truly becoming a Star Wars destination for fans of all ages. The Build Your Own Lightsaber attraction adds an interactive component to the Star Wars park experience, which will cost $19.95 from beginning to end, no matter how elaborate the saber design (including double-bladed customs). Batteries are also included.
Schoeneberg describes the experience:
'Guests can 'Choose Their Own Destiny' by deciding to build a custom lightsaber for the Jedi or the Sith. They will choose from a variety of parts to create their own custom saber or they can create one that is similar to the saber of one of their favorite Star Wars characters. The saber is electronic, with authentic saber light, sounds and vibrations. Upon completion of the saber the guest will tell the Disney Cast Member at the register whether they created a 'good' or 'bad' saber. Based on this distinction, the Disney cast member will give them the Jedi or Sith pin.'
Collectors should note that the Jedi and Sith pins are exclusive to this park and attraction -- they will only be available to those who complete the BYOL experience. In addition, the park plans to refresh the attraction every year with a new custom saber exclusive component or keepsake.
While the attraction is currently exclusive to Florida's Once Upon a Toy Store at Downtown Disney, Schoeneberg says that there is always potential to expand the experience to other Disney Theme Parks around the world. Until then, fans should definitely put Walt Disney World on their list of holiday or summer destinations.
