Are you still not completel
y convinced that action figures don't have a huge impact on the expendable income of millions of people worldwide? Maybe seeing some of today's top action figure manufacturers among a list of top global licensees will change your mind!
In the November 15, 2007 issue of License! Global Magazine, several action figure manufacturers made their Top 100 Global Licensees list. The manufacturers that made the list this year are Bandai America, Hasbro, Jakks Pacific, Mattel
, McFarlane Toys, NECA, Playmates Toys, and Tomy. License! evaluated these companies based on 'successful rel
ationships between retailers/vendors and licensor/licensee; product performance at retail; quality, design, and innovation of licensed product; and effective promotional materials and in-store collateral.'
Obviously, it's not just action figure collectors (and the occasional kid who plays with them) who knows that these toy companies are doing something right. Certainly, companies like Hasbro and Mattel
manufacture so much more than just action figures, but the licenses that they have for action figures are some of their most important, and brands like Star Wars and Cars are some of the most important licenses that Hasbro and Mattel
currently have. Their are other companies, though, like McFarlane and NECA who rel
y almost exclusivel
y on action figures, so for those companies to make the list is definitel
y a sign that action figures based on popular licenses are extremel
y popular when in the right hands.
